WW1 - The Watkins' brothers

Capt. L. P. Watkins (Don) enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps with his brother, Capt. E. J. Watkins (Jimmy), after a course at the Curtiss School. Two other brothers served: Sapper John F. Watkins (Jack), Engineers and Cadet (Roberts) Harry Watkins, R.A.F.

Coincidentally, three Watkins brothers married three McCullough Sisters.
These relationships were as follows: Edward (Jimmy) Watkins 1892-1969 married Dorothy McCullough 1896-1978, John (Jack) Watkins 1898-1952 married Gertrude McCullough 1905-1991, Roberts (Harry) Watkins 1899-1956 married Kathleen (Kit) McCullough 1889-1965.

Captain Pierce Loudon (Don) Watkins shot down the last Zeppelin during the first world war.
On the night of 16/17th June 1917, Lieutenant LP Watkins, a Canadian Army officer attached to No. 37 Squadron, was responsible for the destruction of the Zeppelin L48 over Suffolk; he was flying a BE12. He was awarded a Military Cross.

Capt. Watkins died July 1, 1918 on his second bomb raid and his engine started to malfunction.
